Triathlons are known for rigorous preparations and high intensities during races. These prejudices often keep athletes from giving the wonderful sport a chance. In the summer of 2017, I saw an opportunity of introducing a large number of people to the exciting feeling of competition while limiting the necessary endurance for success. The Ultra-Sprint Triathlon included 300 meters of swimming, 9.2 km of cycling and 3.0 km of running. With snack bars in the transition zones and a free beverage in the finish, participation paid off for non-competitive athletes. Top athletes still met their match in the last running kilometer, which featured an average gradient of 6%.
Thanks to wonderful time keepers, cooks, marshals and lifeguards, the event was a great success. I went on to organize the race for three consecutive years.
